Also known as: "Full Public Disclosure"
We all screw up. The important part is that others can benefit from our mistakes. Unfortunately, they usually benefit by suffering fits of laughter as we try to explain just why we deserve a bit of sympathy for the situation at hand.
I learned that lesson in spades many years ago. I was trying to explain to my roommate why I should deserve a bit of sympathy because my dog Mookie had been scrounging plums from under the plum tree out back. Subsequently, and while I was inside the K-mart, she suffered a gastro-intestinal event (ok, it was completely intestinal) of biblical proportions all over the inside of my car. I couldn't even finish the story because my roommate was literally rolling on the ground laughing so hard he could barely get out the words, "Stop! You're killing me, dude!".
From the desert crowd, I learned the importance of Full Public Disclosure. In short: when you screw up trying to do somethine (and you will!), never try to keep it secret from your buddies. It will be far better in the long run if you just suck it up and "spread the joy". So to that end, let me tell you about my experiences:
- Helmet Shopping
- Making Extension Cords
- "I Tell The Story Of Icarus"
- Installing a Ceiling Fan
- Bathroom Remodel
- Sewer Line Maintenance
Do not fear, my list is far longer than this. I just need to remember a bunch of events I have otherwise spent time trying to forget.
It will be worth it in the end.
