Sentimental Journey
So there we were, driving down the road in Maine. Off to the left was an old runway. There were a couple of light planes, and a fair bit of grass growing through the cracks in the runway. And then, something else. Something shiny and unmistakable: an old WW2 bomber parked in the sun.
Naturally, I had to stop the car. I'm a sucker for anything to do with internal combustion, and there were four big Wright Cyclone radial engines on that thing.
It turns out the plane was a B17G known as "Sentimental Journey". They were giving walk-through tours that day, so I had to do that.
When I got done, I had to ask if it were possible to get a ride.
Of course it was.
And that was that.
Next: Tour the exterior of an B17
It will be worth it in the end.
Wright Cyclone in full song.
